Craft Brewery Craftsmanship
Creativity abounds on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. It can be witnessed in the wonderful works made by our artists and artisans, savoured in the incredible creativity of our local chefs and bakers, and most decided appreciated when pulling a pint of our stellar selection of locally crafted beer.
Each flavour is unique, but every one of them is infused with the enthusiasm and inspiration of our local brewers, whose passion for the product is well worthy of toasting again and again!
We proudly present our collection of craft brewers along with a list below complete with lovely spots to stop along the way as there are simply too many to see and enjoy in just one day.

Boxing Rock Brewing Company prides itself on the mass appeal of its products “with a wide variety of styles and we believe we have a beer for everyone, even those of you who think you don’t like beer. We design beers to challenge your assumptions, and to honour traditional styles.” A bold claim – yes! But one they’ve been delivering on for over a decade. Their legendary taproom in Shelburne is the perfect spot to experience their creations amidst fellow beer enthusiasts from around the world and the locals that love it too!

Head to downtown Liverpool and you’ll find Hell Bay Brewery – a small, locally owned and operated Craft Brewery offering high-quality beer made using only the best malts, hops, and yeast. Handcrafted in small batches to ensure maximum freshness – Hell Bay’s award-winning beer is as authentic as the brewers themselves. Drop into their brewery and taste what folks have been talking about since 2011.

The Lightship Brewing Company creates small batches of each brew aged in rum, bourbon and whiskey barrels so as to impart an incredible depth of flavour to their beers. They have also created their signature cider in the same fashion – aging in red and white wine barrels to bring forth a rose-coloured glass of delicate flavours. The Lightship Brewing Company comes complete with the most spectacular view of the UNESCO World Heritage site Lunenburg across the bay.

Saltbox Brewing Company in picturesque Mahone Bay invites you to stop by and become a part of their community. Their welcoming and comfortable Tap Room features their “signature beer, cider, sodas and wine made and served by people you can talk to.” Each of their products tells a story and celebrates the heritage of the brewers and the historic little town in which they are based.

Shipwright Brewing was the first of Lunenburg’s craft breweries. Created as a toast to its shipbuilding heritage – offering quality small-batch brews that pair perfectly with its picturesque surroundings! Attached to the Grand Banker Bar & Grill overlooking the historic Lunenburg waterfront – Shipwright Brewing boasts everything in one room so you can watch the beer being made, and have a pint at their beautiful bar. You can even get your growler filled to go and pick up some canned products while you’re at it.

Tanner & Co. Brewing offers their “Traditionally Different” creations at two locations on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. The first is their vineyard-style brewery in Chester Basin and the second is at their Tanner & Co. on Duke Tap Room in the seaside Village of Chester. Brewmaster Dan Tanner has deep roots in the region and that love and enthusiasm for the homeland along with his wealth of experience as a Sommelier ensure every batch of their beer is infused with incredibly unique aromas and flavours and tastes unlike anything else you’ve had before.

As you can see there’s plenty of craftsmanship to celebrate on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. We invite you to do so responsibly and by all means, see the sweet spots to stay along the way in the listings below. We’ll see you when you get here and CHEERS to safe travels!
