There’s no better way to gain a true appreciation for the region than to learn the history. While many things have changed since the 1700’s we’ve not forgotten those who came before us on Nova Scotia’s South Shore and we invite you to celebrate with us and share in the experience.
The Black Loyalist Heritage Museum in Birchtown shares the story of the Black Loyalist – free men and women who fought for the British during the American Revolution and won their freedom.
The DesBrisay Museum, nestled in Woodland Gardens in the heart of Bridgewater. A versatile site DesBrisay Museum is home to a collection of more than 11,000 heritage artifacts!
The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic provides the ultimate waterfront experience, in the Town of Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While at the Museum, you’ll experience life in a fishing community and discover, up close, life at sea.
The Hank Snow Town Museum is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the man himself and his contribution to Country Music in Nova Scotia and the world!
The Cape Sable Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation of local history through exhibits and archives. With a large collection of records going back to the 1800’s the archives are a treasure trove of information. Pair that with the 4 site complex along the Barrington River and let’s just say you’ll want to stay awhile! The site also includes the Old Meeting House Museum, Seal Island Light Museum, and the Woolen Museum where a woollen mural includes the first piece of Nova Scotia tartan, designed and woven by Bessie Murray.
The Queens County Museum invites you to step on board and learn about life at sea. A large collection of M’ikmaq artifacts can also be found at the site. While in Liverpool visit the judge’s chambers and the criminal box at the Queens Museum of Justice, a lesson in early forms of punishment and interesting trials!
Ross Farm Museum located in New Ross is a living, working farm museum depicting 150 years of agriculture in Nova Scotia. A working blacksmith shop, stave mill and cooperage-producing barrels are amongst the features of the site.
The Wile Carding Mill Museum explores the story of wool, water power and women at work in 19th Century Bridgewater. See the very machine that revolutionized carding in the area as well as the tranquil setting of Sandy Brook and the Mill’s overshot waterwheel.
